We spent a day in Venice in May 2024, and passed through Verona to get there, which means this is a very short list of places I actually ate at. However, there are many more options which I have included on two separate maps at the end of this post (one for Venice, and one for Verona). We have many more gluten free Italy guides, too.
I did a lot of research into where I could safely eat gluten free while travelling to Italy. Consistently, bloggers and websites said it would be easy and safe to eat in Italy – and it was! In Italy, restaurants get certified by the AIC (Italian Celiac Association), which basically means they have passed certification and training as a safe place for people with celiac disease to eat. They do have a paid app you can download, but we weren’t in Italy for long, so I didn’t try it. Note: Be cautious when visiting gelato shops if you are celiac, as cross-contamination is likely. Of course, do your research, ask questions ahead of ordering, and reach out to restaurants ahead of time when needed.

Mister Pizza
They have gluten free crust and can make any pizza gluten free. They also have many dessert options! Only rice flour is used in the kitchen, but they also have a separate gluten free prep area. Pizzas come with a flag marking it as gluten free. There is an up-charge of 1.5 euro. This was the best pizza crust we had during our 3-week Italy trip!
Grom
This is a 100% gluten free gelato chain in Italy. We ate here in multiple cities. They even have gluten free waffle cones! We had cones with 2 flavours each. The portions are a bit smaller here, so get a big one if you want lots of gelato!

This restaurant is 100% gluten free. It is also vegan for those who need it. They have a unique concept: it’s a buffet where you pay by weight. It was a bit pricier than we expected – we must have picked heavy items. The risotto was to die for! Seriously, so good. They also had a dish that seemed like an eggplant lasagna that was delicious. The tomato sauce was out of this world. They had desserts that looked delicious, but we had no room left in our stomachs. Highly recommend.
Pasticceria Bacio di Cioccolato
This is a 100% gluten free bakery. We got a small cannolo, an arancini, and a pizza pop type thing (like a tiny calzone). The cannolo was good, it was lined with chocolate before being filled with cream. The pizza pop thing I ate cold on a train; it would have been good if it was warm! Overall, a worthy stop if you’re in Verona.
