Late Night Coffee Shops in New West & Tri-Cities

Sometimes you just want to head out for a nice coffee and a chat after work with a friend or grab a sweet mocha after dinner.  However, often it can be hard to find somewhere open after about 5:00.  We’ve searched high and low for options and have compiled a list of places in New Westminster and the Tri-Cities areas where you can go for a coffee or treat after 5:00pm.  These are all places we’ve personally been to, but we’ll add a list at the end of other options we’ve read about but haven’t been to yet. We’ll also include a map to see where everything is located.

This list is a work in progress as we discover new places! If you want to skip to Tri-Cities places, click here.

New Westminster Area

Craft Café

Craft Café beside the Boathouse restaurant, at the scenic Quay of New West. Open until 8:00pm Thursday – Sunday.  They have a small case of goodies at the front, where you can see their offerings.  They make full lunches and breakfasts as well.  There are gluten free options, which look like they’re provided by a third party (brownies, carrot cake, pecan tart, cookies).  They have a unique selection of merchandise, including coffees, teas, chocolates, and coffee makers.  Seating inside is cozy and there isn’t much of it, but there is also seating outside if weather permits.

Flavour Balance

One of my go-to’s in New West is Flavour Balance.  Open until 10:00pm Wednesday – Saturday, until 6:30 Monday and Tuesday, but closed Sundays. The owners are so lovely and remember you if you go regularly.  Their mocha is one of the best in New West!  They carry the local gluten-free brand “Rebel” as well as gluten-free dacquoise made by local “Earthling Foods”.  If you’re not someone who requires gluten free food, they have a wide assortment of scones and cakes (which are apparently super delicious), made in house and very reasonably priced.  This is a popular spot for people to hunker down with their computers, though the wooden chairs are not the most comfortable to sit on for long periods.

Passenger Café

Passenger is a locally owned small coffee shop, located inside the New West Skytrain Station.  It is on the top floor near towards the movie theatre.  They make their pastries fresh each morning, and have Earthling Foods’ “Dacaron” as a gluten free option.  Passenger has a wide array of drinks, including coffee, smoothies, milk lattes, and boba.  They don’t have a ton of seating, with 2 small tables and bar-style seating available.  Passenger is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30am – 9:00pm, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:30am – 10:00pm, and Sundays from 12:00pm – 6:00pm.

Waves

Waves has two locations in New Westminster, one uptown and one downtown.  The downtown location is open until 8:00 or 9:00pm depending on the day, and the uptown location is open until 6:00 or 8:00pm.  Both have plenty of seating and welcome people sitting to chat or work for a while.  They have a wide selection of drinks to choose from, and there is a points plan if you download their app or have a Waves card.

Delicia Cafe

Located on Columbia St. in New Westminster, Delicia is a newer addition to New West.  People seemed to be frequenting Delicia for all purposes (to go, to work/study, to socialize).  There is something for everyone – they make their pastries in house and have a wide variety of cakes and tarts.  They have gluten free options, which include cheesecake (a rare find in coffee shops). They also have gelato, but I’m not sure how quickly that moves outside of the summertime. Not open super late, but they are pen until 6:00PM, except Friday and Saturday when they are open until 7:00pm. There is paid street parking available.

Tri-Cities

Café Delitzi (Coquitlam)

This is a true gem located near Coquitlam Centre mall.  They are open until 8:00pm Monday to Saturday, and 7:00pm on Sundays.  The owner, Ray, is so nice and really loves what he does.  All the employees get to know you and remember your order if you go regularly.  They have a wide selection of specialty drinks and food, including some gluten free options.  We like the smoothies and the power balls! A gluten free bun is also available for their breakfast sandwiches. If you don’t need gluten-free, they have tons of options, including sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and cakes. They often hold special events including game nights or local musicians.

Pappa Roti (Coquitlam)

Located in Coquitlam at Pinetree Way and Glen Drive, you will find Pappa Roti. The name is deceiving because this is a coffee shop and not a roti shop. Pappa Roti is open until 10:00pm every night. They have many food options, such as different types of stuffed buns, sandwiches, soup, and pastries (including gluten free options). They have a huge seating area, but they do have a 2-hour maximum. There is paid street parking out front, but it’s free on Sundays and after 8:00pm.

C Market Coffee (Port Coquitlam)

The largest café in the Tri-Cities, C Market is a huge space with room to gather. Many locals here working with laptops, gathering with friends, or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee. There are lunch options as well as pastries available. The seating isn’t the most comfortable for long periods (cement benches and plastic stools). They have another smaller location in Coquitlam as well, near-ish to Ikea.

Open 8:00am to 9:00pm daily.

Creekside Coffee Factory – Westwood (Coquitlam)

Creekside is in a convenient location, just off Lougheed beside the big Superstore. This location has tons of seating. Lots of two person tables as well as a big “family style” table. Lots of drink options, sandwich options, gelato, and a couple vegan options it looked like. No gluten free options that I could see.  There is tons of parking. They also have a second location on Barnet Highway that we have not been to.

Open 8:30pm – 9:30pm daily, except open until 6:30pm on Sundays.
