Gluten Free Coffee Shops in the Lower Mainland

A quick look at the ENTIRELY gluten free coffee shops:

A quick look at the coffee shops with gluten free options:

I’ve included a map below as well if that’s helpful. This list is a work in progress as we discover new places that offer gluten free choices. Check out our other gluten free articles!

Entirely Gluten Free:

Caffe Delish (Port Coquitlam)

By far my favourite for a gluten free treat on this entire list…this is an ENTIRELY GLUTEN FREE café!  Everything you see, you can eat!  Indoor and outdoor seating available, with free parking. They have a full bakery nearby in Port Coquitlam as well.  My personal favourite is the cinnamon bun, but I also really enjoy the salted caramel brownie, breakfast bagel, cherry dark chocolate scone, and the Mama McCreedy cookie.  You really can’t go wrong with anything here!

The Polly Fox (Abbotsford)

Friends, this one is YUM!  The Polly Fox is an entirely gluten free bakery and café in downtown Abbotsford.  It might be a bit out of the way, but it sure is worth a stop!  They have a food menu (all GF) which includes sandwiches that can be made with waffles instead of bread.  Also included are the typical coffee shop treats like muffins, cookies, brownies, and more.  We tried the cheese bun and the chicken-brie sandwich on focaccia (because when can you every find good GF focaccia?), and they were both delicious!  The coffee was also pretty darn good.

Free 2-hour street parking is available, though may be hard to find on a weekend.  The Polly Fox is open until 4:00pm, but the kitchen closes at 3 (closed Sundays and Mondays).

Have Gluten Free Options:

Coasters (New Westminster)

Coasters has a cool west coast vibe, with unique touches that make it a calm place to grab your daily caffeine fix.  There are a few gluten free choices, as they carry the local gluten free brand Rebel. They also had a couple of other options; a muffin and a loaf of some sort.  They have bar-style seating along the window looking outside, about 8 tables that fit 2 people each, and two big comfy chairs.  Coasters is located on 6th street near downtown and is open until 5pm every day.

Craft Café (New Westminster)

Craft Café beside the Boathouse restaurant, at the scenic Quay of New West.  They have a small case of goodies at the front, where you can see their gluten free options, which look like they’re provided by a third party (brownies, carrot cake, pecan tart, cookies).  The tart is pretty good, but the brownie wasn’t great in my opinion.  They also have gluten free bread available for sandwiches, but I’m not sure what the cross-contamination is like for these. Seating inside is cozy and there isn’t much of it, but there is also seating outside if weather permits.  Open late, until 8:00pm Thursday – Sunday.

Flavour Balance (New Westminster)

One of my go-to’s in New West is Flavour Balance.  I love it because the owners are so lovely and remember you if you go regularly.  Their mocha is one of the best in New West!  They carry a variety of goodies from the local gluten free brand Rebel as well as gluten free “Dacaron” made by local Earthling Foods, all individually wrapped.  Open until 10:00pm Wednesday – Saturday, until 6:30 Monday and Tuesday, but closed Sundays.

Caffé Mira (New Westminster)

Tucked away in the Victoria Hill neighbourhood, Caffé Mira is a treat! Their mocha is divine, one of the best I’ve had.  They have a couple gluten free options which they purchase through a third party and come individually wrapped (usually a brownie and a cookie).  They do also have a gluten free wrap in lieu of bread if you want a sandwich, but I haven’t personally tried this.  Even though there are limited options for GF treats, I wanted to include them in the list because I just love this little café and the mochas are just that good.  Most people seem to take their coffees to go for a walk around the neighbourhood. There are also two additional locations in Vancouver. Open until 6:00pm.

Delicia Cafe (New Westminster)

Located on Columbia St. in New Westminster, Delicia is a newer addition to New West.  Their pastries are made in-house and have a wide variety of cakes and tarts.  They have gluten free options, which include cheesecake (a rare find in coffee shops), brownie, carrot cake, and different types of brownie cakes. They also have gelato, but I’m not sure if that is gluten free or not. Open until 6:00PM, except Friday and Saturday when they are open until 7:00pm. There is paid street parking available.

Café Delitzi (Coquitlam)

This is a true gem located near Coquitlam Centre mall.  They have a few gluten free options, including smoothies and a couple treats.  We like the smoothies and the power balls; the brownies and peanut butter bars are also gluten free. A gluten free bun is also available for their breakfast sandwiches.  They often hold special events including game nights or local musicians. They are open until 8:00pm Monday to Saturday, and 7:00pm on Sundays.

*Note: ownership has changed since we originally wrote this review/article. We have heard from friends the offerings are the same, but are not sure if that is true of gluten free options as well. We also can no longer comment to the level of service and care taken in food preparation. Make sure to inquire if you are ordering any gluten free options.

Pappa Roti (Coquitlam)

Located in Coquitlam at Pinetree Way and Glen Drive, you will find Pappa Roti. The name is deceiving because this is a coffee shop and not a roti shop. They have gluten free options that are individually wrapped, such as a brownie, date square, Nanaimo bar, chocolate pecan tarts, and cookies. There is a huge seating area, but they do have a 2-hour maximum. They are open until 10:00pm, and there is paid street parking out front (free on Sundays and after 8:00pm).

Wendel’s Bookstore & Café (Fort Langley)

Located in the cute downtown of Fort Langley is Wendell’s Bookstore & Café. We went near Christmas, so it was packed. I imagine going on any weekend would be close to the same.  Wendell’s offers an extensive menu of sandwiches, baked goods, and hot dishes.  Their gluten free options are on the top shelf of the pastry case, and they have GF bread for the sandwiches.  They are well-versed in which of their hot dishes are safe as well. Their GF treats are made off-site at their gluten free industrial kitchen. You can buy their gluten free goodies (carrot cake, tarts, pie shells, Nanaimo bars, etc) at local grocery stores such as Save On Foods and Choices Market. Note that parking can be tricky if you go at a popular time!

Open 7:30am – 10:00pm daily.

Coastal Coffee House (Langley)

Coastal Coffee has quite a bit of seating, and it seems to be a popular spot for friends to gather.  They carry Rebel brand gluten free goodies, as well as baked goods that look like either Wendel’s or Marie’s Guilt Free Bakery.  Fair warning, they are expensive!! We ordered two medium specialty drinks from a sign near the register and it cost us $17.50. They didn’t have prices on the sign, and we never would have chosen those if we knew we’d be paying $8.75 per drink! We probably wouldn’t choose this spot again unless we were in the area and in a pinch for a gluten free snack.

Open 7:00am – 3:30pm Wednesday to Friday, 8:00am – 3:00pm Saturdays, and closed Sunday & Monday.

Other Locations:

These locations have gluten free options, but very few (think one or two pre-wrapped options).
